Surfers will be at home at Cardiff By The Sea, thanks to its reef and those wanting to get away from the crowds can seek out hidden coves at Solana Beach. With its lakes, arts village, stunning organ pavilion and Shakespearean theatre, Balboa Park is loved by tourists and locals alike. Dolphins, sea otters, bat ray and orca are also locals at Seaworld San Diego, which should be on any itinerary and their high-octane shows are a must!
Moreover, if you are a beach-lover, a trip to Los Angeles means you can make this a two centre holiday, with Mexico’s beautiful beaches at Los Cabos only a two and a half hour flight away.

Local traditions?

Have a holiday in a holiday! The day after Thanksgiving, the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade puts on a pantomime procession to mark the beginning of the holidays. If you are hungry for more, a food celebration also marks the beginnings of the festivities.

Travel tip?

With a ten hour flight from the U.K. to LA, you want to fly as relaxed and as comfortable as you can, but that does not have go be expensive. With most airlines offering four cabins on long-haul, it may seem the best option to book Economy. However, Premium Economy is becoming a popular alternative, and Delta is offering fares in their Comfort Plus cabin for around £600 return. This includes two items of checked-in baggage at an increased weight, three course meal and pre- landing substantial snack, bar drinks, blanket, pillow, Tumi amenity kit, three inches of extra leg room and a more comfortable seat. Don’t forget a return will save you up to fifty per cent of a single ticket.
