Why visit Athens?

Easy! The Acropolis. Even though it can be seen wherever you are in the city, this world famous monument must be explored.

When should I visit?

With this likely to be a city-sightseeing break, you want to feel comfortable, so visiting in the cooler months is a good choice. A trip between March and early June or September to November are good choices.

Athens is a gateway to the Saronic Gulf and their beautiful islands, so take a day cruise to visit Hydra, Poros and Aegina. Get great views of the city by climbing Lycabettus Hill; meander through the Plaka District with its numerous bars, cafes, shops, pop-up shops and street art and enjoy a classic film at the outside cinema, Cine Paris, with the imposing and illuminated Acropolis high up in the distance. Oh, during your visit to Athens, make sure you are in Syntagma Square at 11 a.m. to watch the Changing of the Guard.

Local traditions?

A visit to Tavern Kalokerinos in the Plaka neighbourhood is a must for great local dishes and an evening of Greek dancing.
