Why visit Anchorage?
Alaskan Adventure! The Chugach Mountains are the perfect location for those who love the outdoors. Try kayaking on a glacial lagoon, hiking through Arctic Valley or canoing across Eklutna Lake. Oh, and look out for mousse.
Alaska provides many adventures for the outdoor tourist and is a perfect stop-off on a longer trip to America.
When should I visit?
Up to you! May to September is the tourist season where you will be able to easily board cruises to view the glaciers. However, September to April is when the Northern Lights are better seen with March providing the best viewings. Also, some hotels may provide discounts out of season.
Alaska has some of the most navigable glaciers to get to view up close so join a boat trip and travel down the fjords to see them up close. Take a Glacier Discovery train journey down the railroad and learn why it is so important to Alaska and Anchorage's past. Go on a bear hunt or bask in the midnight sun.
A museum with a difference, the Alaska Native Heritage Center, located at 8800 Heritage Center Drive, will guide you in Alaska's story and the native cultures of the area. Check out live music and dance too.
